Began in Wales

UWTSD Celebrates 200 Years of Higher Education in Wales

In 2022, UWTSD will celebrate 200 years of higher education in Wales

The bicentenary commemorates the establishment of St David’s College, Lampeter on 12 August 1822 through the laying the foundation stone which marks the beginning of higher education in Wales. We’re proud of our history and how it has shaped the University that we are today. From the seeds sown in Lampeter over two centuries ago and the development of our campuses, we have grown into a multi-campus, dual-sector University providing vocationally relevant programmes in partnership with employers.

Our campuses are distinctive in their offer and character

Our campuses in Lampeter, Carmarthen, Swansea, Cardiff, London and Birmingham are distinctive in their academic offer and character and have evolved to meet the needs of the communities they serve. They provide access to higher education for people of all backgrounds to achieve their potential and respond to the economic, social and cultural needs of their regions.

In celebrating the University’s foundation, we also celebrate the evolution of the University and its continued mission of transformation education and transforming lives.

Inspired by our past; shaping our future

Working for WALES

我们是UWTSD集团,其中包括Coleg先生Gâr and Coleg Ceredigion as part of a dual-sector institution providing progression routes from entry-level to doctoral studies. Our programmes are connected to the needs of employers and respond to the economic and social needs of Wales within a wider global context.

Our PEOPLE are at the heart of everything we do

We are proud of our dedicated and talented colleagues and we work together as a team to make a difference to the lives of our students and the communities we serve. We are committed to the principles of equality and diversity and to building strong communities on all sites to create an inclusive, supportive learning and working environment in which all staff, students and learners can flourish and fulfil their personal potential. We actively work on removing barriers to participation and supporting people from all backgrounds to achieve their potential.

We celebrate our DIVERSITY

The geographical location of campuses and learning centres, our academic portfolio, our people, our languages and our culture come together to spark ideas and generate solutions to some of society’s greatest challenges. Our diverse community is the golden thread that unites us and makes us unique. It creates an inclusive environment where our different elements and perspectives combine and are celebrated for their role in shaping UWTSD over the past two hundred years.

We are rooted in our COMMUNITIES

Our campuses act as strategic economic, cultural and social hubs facilitating the delivery of our civic mission. Over the past two centuries, we have evolved, transforming our programmes and learning opportunities to respond to social and economic needs. We work with our communities at grassroots levels to provide transformational opportunities, build their capacity, resilience and create opportunities to reinforce their sense of place and distinctiveness. In celebrating our bicentenary, we also celebrate the role our communities have played in our journey.

We benefit from our NETWORKS

UWTSD’s vision is to be a University for Wales and its people, with the wellbeing of our nation at the heart of our activities. We work with a wide range of partners to provide educational and commercial opportunities to ensure that Wales is connected to the wider world. Through our learning centres, collaborative partnerships and academic activity our networks extend across the UK and internationally.
