UWTSD is part of the Global Wales Discover programme which is a British Council-run programme funded by the Welsh Government and Global Wales.

It provides funding for Welsh Universities to deliver short-term mobility opportunities for Welsh undergraduate students to work, study or volunteer in another country.

Who can take part?

Global Wales Discoveris open to UWTSD Welsh students who are studying atundergraduate level.


Welsh students can spend between two and eight weeks studying, working or volunteering in one of the following countries:

EU Member States:Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Greece, Malta, Romania.

Non-EU Member States:USA, Canada, Japan, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, India, China and Vietnam.

For students,Global Wales Discoveris a valuable opportunity to spend a short time abroad, building skills and confidence, enhancing employability and developing cultural awareness. Funding is available to support students’ living costs and travel.


Eligibility

TheGlobal Wales Discoverprogramme will provide Welsh students with funding to take part in the short-duration study, work or volunteering global opportunities in one of the target countries.

In order to be eligible students must:

  • Be a UK national or have 'settled status'
  • Have been Welsh-domiciled for three years or more prior to the first day of the first academic year of the course
  • Have been living in the UK for three years before starting the course.
  • Take part in a 2-8 week programme
  • The programme must be in one of the target countries

Funding Available

Living costs

The funding available for your living costs depends on thelocationanddurationof your programme:

  • £210a week (£30 a day) is available for the following countries:
    • Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Sweden, Canada, Qatar, UAE, USA, Japan
  • £195a week (£27 a day) is available for the following countries:
    • Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Greece, Spain, Cyprus, Netherlands, Malta, Portugal
  • £185a week (£26 a day) is available for the following countries:
    • Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia
  • £175a week (£25 a day) is available for the following countries:
    • India, China, Vietnam

Travel Costs

The funding available for your travel costs depends on thelocationof your programme:

  • £300is available for travel to the following countries:
    • Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Greece, Malta, Romania
  • £1200is available for travel to the following countries:
    • Canada, China, India, Japan, Qatar, UAE, USA, Vietnam.

How to apply

In order to apply for the funding, you will need to provide the following:

  • A completedStudy abroad application form(even if you have previously completed one).
    - Mark on the top that it is for Global Wales Discover.
  • Student Finance Wales entitlement letter for 18/19 or 19/20.
