The University believes that the professional recognition of its' academic and learning support staff provides a valuable measure of their success and is a vital indicator that the University is fully aligned to United Kingdom Professional Standards Framework (UKPSF) practice.

For an individual, professional recognition provides a distinguished mark of quality, consolidating personal development and emphasising the professionalisation of good practice in Higher Education, which may be evaluated with reference to the UKPSF.

The UKPSF is a comprehensive set of sector-owned professional standards and guidelines for Higher Education providers and leaders. It is a nationally-recognised framework for benchmarking success within HE teaching and learning support, and can be applied at the individual or institutional level to improve quality and recognise excellence. Indeed, continuous professional development at the University is explicitly aligned with the UKPSF and individual staff members are encouraged to reflect on their professional practice with reference to the UKPSF.

Using the UKPSF as a benchmark, the Higher Education Academy (HEA) awards fellowships in recognition of excellent professional development that represents confidence in an individuals’ continued success and eligibility to work towards the next level of fellowship, National Teaching Fellow applications, and in career progression. Fellowship also serves as an internationally-recognised badge of success and an important indicator that individual members of staff and the University is aligned with UKPSF practice. The University offers a number of pathways to support staff in achieving HEA Fellowship.
