UWTSD Computing student secures Silver Medal at WorldSkills UK LIVE finals

Congratulations to Zack Evans, who has been awarded a Silver medal at the WorldSkills UK Live finals.

Zak, Paul Lawrence and James Dunhill, represented the University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) at The UK’s largest skills, apprenticeships and careers event, which took place on November 21-23 at Birmingham NEC.

Over the three days there were competitions in 70 different skills across the Digital, Technology, Engineering, Construction and Hospitality industries with finalists having to a set task or series of tasks in their respective skill area within a limited time and front of the 70,000 plus visitors attending the event.

Zack Evans, is a first year Software Engineering digital degree apprentice employed at Inngot Ltd in Swansea’s city centre. Paul Lawrence, who recently graduated with a First Class degree in Computer Networks and Cyber Security is studying for a Master’s in Computer Networks and Cyber Security. James Dunhill is currently in his second year of a BSc in Computer Networks and Cyber Security.

Dr Kapilan Radhakrishnan, Academic Director (Applied Computing) at the University’s Wales Institute of Science and Art (WISA), said: “All three students have been inspirational and great ambassadors of UWTSD. They showed great character and handled the pressure very well during the competition. Zack, who is in full-time employment and in part-time studies put in a lot of effort to prepare for this competition. To win Silver at the UK Finals is no mean feat and he fully deserve it for his hard work. We are really proud of our students’ achievements and looking forward to training more students for next year.”

Competing on an international stage at WorldSkills gives students the chance to put into practice what they learn in their degree courses and in front of so many world-renowned employers.”
