ACertificate of Higher Education(Cert HE) is a Level 4 qualification and is equivalent to the first year of a full-time honours degree programme. To achieve the qualification, students must obtain a minimum of 120 credits. The successful completion of a Certificate of Higher Education can lead into the second year of an appropriate Foundation Degree or an honours degree programme.

The courses are designed to help boost confidence; build people’s skills and to further and develop knowledge in a range of subject areas.

Starting this October, Certificates of Higher Education are available in the areas ofAdvocacy,Counselling and Mental Health;Art and Design; Business and Management; Computing, Engineering and Construction; Health and Lifestyle; Law;Performing Arts; Teaching; and Tourism and Hospitality.

These University validated qualifications range from 7 months to 1 year in duration and are delivered through a combination of online and on-campus delivery.

Designed to enable students to balance family and work commitments alongside their studies, many of the courses are delivered in multiple locations across South Wales.

There is also funding available via Student Finance Wales as well as University bursaries available including assistance with IT equipment and connectivity.

Kelly Lewis-Bennett graduated with a Certificate of Higher Education (Cert HE) in Social Enterprise Management at UWTSD’s Carmarthen Business School this summer.

Having used her studies to benefit her work with a social enterprise, Kelly has now returned to the university to start a degree course - a huge achievement for a student who previously lacked confidence in her academic ability.

“I decided to study Social Enterprise and Management to gain knowledge to help me in my role with the social enterprise I’m involved with,” says Kelly. “It was a huge risk for me as I didn't enjoy school when I was younger and left without any qualifications so I wasn't sure I would be able to manage or cope academically in university.

“Having said that, it was one of the best decisions I have made, and I hadn't realised until then how much I love learning. Studying at Carmarthen Business School has completely changed the way I think; it has given me so much confidence within myself and that is all down to the support that I have received from my lecturers and classmates throughout the year.”
