The University of Wales Trinity Saint David has appointed Chris Hawker as a Professor of Practice. Professor Chris Hawker’s career has focused on delivering change and improvement in health and social care services whilst engaging with research and shaping new ideas through a range of research and development settings. He is currently supporting the development of an innovative ‘One Health’ programme for Wales.

The University of Wales Trinity Saint David has appointed Chris Hawker as a Professor of Practice.

The One Health programme is possibly the most important change in our way of thinking about human and 'planetary' health; the focus in Wales is on its application in a developed world setting, in line with Wales' commitment to sustainability.

Professor Hawker added: “I am delighted to be asked to be a Professor of Practice at the University as this will provide more opportunities for me to help to shape and inform services for the future, in particular developing a ‘One Health’ approach in line with the Welsh Government’s ‘Future Generations’ commitments.

“年轻人一直是(永远)的未来,我期待与他们分享我的知识和经验,激动他们不断改善威尔士人的生活。”

Professor Hawker’s professional work has encompassed third world development, youth work in North London and community development in York, before moving to social care where, after being recruited by Mid Glamorgan County Council, he became head of Community Care Services for Rhondda-Cynon-Taf County Borough Council.

He introduced the social services performance management programme for the Welsh Assembly Government before moving to become Deputy Director for Southampton’s Social Services Department. This was followed by heading up health innovation programmes for the University of Southampton.

哲学和心理学学位,之后是管理文凭,社会工作资格证书,应用社会研究硕士学位(斯旺西大学)和MBA(开放大学)。

He has undertaken research in social development for Aston University Business School, Tavistock Institute, Rowntree Foundation, and the Kings Fund (amongst others), taught on courses at Cardiff University and was Associate Director and Senior Fellow at the Welsh Institute of Health and Social Care at the (then) University of Glamorgan. Professor Hawker has also worked on a number of development programmes for Eurocities and, while at the University of Southampton, was a senior partner in the EU’s Social Platform for Innovation in Social Services.

Professor Wendy Dearing, Dean of the University’s Institute of Management and Health said: “We are delighted to welcome Professor Hawker, who joins a number of exceptional individuals who are working with the university to bring their unique and professional expertise to benefit our students. The role of Professors of Practice allows us to work with partners with specific expertise related to our strategic aims who sometimes do not come through the traditional academic route. Through their involvement in our provision, we can enhance the access to a range of defined skills to support academic delivery and build upon our rapidly improving reputation for delivering graduate skills in the context of employability, sustainability and work-related education and training.”
