Degree Apprenticeships

UWTSD is developing programmes to deliver the new strand ofDegree Apprenticeshipsin England and Wales.

Employees can study part-time and achieve an award that provides them with academic and vocational skills at university level. Courses include computing, advanced manufacturing, engineering, and policing.

Each apprenticeship standard is designed by a group of employers to address the skills needs of their sector. The cost of the courses may be covered by the Welsh Government or the employer's Apprenticeship Levy contributions. For more information contact the Apprenticeship Unit.


The CILT(UK) Professional Diploma is aimed typically at logistics professionals with 6 or more years of experience.

Programme Duration

Typically students are expected to take 8 - 12 months to complete the part-time programme. The total time permitted to complete a Professional Diploma award by the CILT (UK) is three years from the date of registration.

The course is delivered online with lectures pre-recorded using a software package called Panopto. In addition to the recorded lectures, there are a series of Directed Reading and Reflection Exercises. Each module is split into a number of sections with each section being assessed by an assignment, often an essay. There are no class cohorts and students may begin their studies at any time during the year.

Modules delivered:

The Level 5 Professional Diploma consists of four modules drawn from three groups and the Management Module is compulsory.

Typically a student with a focus on logistics will study: -

Management

  1. Warehousing
  2. Project Management
  3. Supply Chain Management

Students whose focus is transportation often study: -

  1. Management
  2. Transport Planning
  3. Movement of People and Transport & Society

Typically students are expected to take 24 months to complete the part-time programme. The course is delivered face to face classroom based at the Defence Logistics School (DLS), Princess Royal Barracks, Deepcut (UK). Classes take place on 10 weekends spread across 10 months.

Logistics is a key aspect of almost every industrial and service activity. It is an essential part of the management of supply chains in the manufacturing and retail sectors and is critically important in military operations

Programme Duration

Completion of the course is expected to be 32 months. The total time permitted to complete the MSc for part-time students is 12 years from the date of registration. The course is delivered face to face classroom based at the Defence Logistics School (DLS), Princess Royal Barracks, Deepcut (UK). Classes take place on 12 weekends spread across 24 months. In addition, there are two Summer Schools, each of 6 days duration.

Modules delivered

Part 1 consists of the following modules:

  1. Logistics Strategies & Operations
  2. Sustainable Logistics
  3. Logistics Modelling
  4. Financial Management & Contract Law
  5. Management of Human & Organisational Resources
  6. Research Methods

Part 2 is completion of a student-led research project and report (dissertation).

The costs associated with the MSc Logistics are £6,200 which includes bed and breakfast accommodation when attending Summer Schools in Swansea.
