UWTSD welcomes Welsh Government Innovation specialists to SA1

Welsh Government’s Innovation Team held their first face-to-face meeting in two years and asked UWTSD to host it.

UWTSD has a very strong relationship with the Welsh Government Innovation team and many of the businesses who engage with UWTSD projects have been referred by them.

Many of the Innovation Specialists from across Wales attended, and it was an opportunity to showcase some of the brilliant initiatives that UWTSD can offer Welsh businesses. The meeting included a presentation of the new SMART Digital Accelerator project. This consists of a team of industry expert advisers who work with manufacturers in Wales to help them identify the right technology to boost their bottom line. This is delivered by UWTSD and funded by Welsh Government. Richard Morgan, Project Lead and Head of Innovation & Engagement at UWTSD also shared information about other exciting collaborative projects such as the Advanced Manufacturing Skills Academy (AMSA) and Wales Centre for Batch Manufacture (CBM).

The meeting included a tour of UWTSD’s robotics and motorsports workshops.

Richard Morgan said: “It was a very exciting and productive session. Much of Welsh Government and UWTSD’s activity is mutually supportive and illustrative of our collaborative approach to engaging with industry. When we work together, it really increases the impact of what we can achieve. The team enjoyed showing our guests the facilities on our Swansea campus and showcasing the cutting-edge technology we can offer industry partners.”

Dr Gwion Williams, Senior Operations Manager for SMART Innovation said: “It was great for our Innovation Specialist team to experience the fantastic expertise and facilities at UWTSD first hand and build on the excellent links we have with the University. The SMART Digital Accelerator is a critical part of our aim to introduce new technologies to Welsh businesses and will increase the impact of the SMART support for business innovation we provide. The support available to businesses will help build a stronger, greener economy for Wales and increase resilience.”

SMART Digital Accelerator is a team of industry expert advisers who work with manufacturers in Wales to help them identify the right technology to boost their bottom line.

The project is funded by Welsh Government, delivered by University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD), and supported by the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre Cymru (AMRC Cymru). There is no financial cost to the participating business.
